Hey guys.
So this is something I have been struggling with (for a lack of a better word) for some time now.
How do you guys feel about me posting actors that have been canceled. I am not sure how I feel about cancel culture, but I am not sure how I feel about looking at them naked at this point. Some of them have actually done some screwed-up stuff.
For example, I still haven't posted Shia LaBeouf's nude scene in Pieces of a Woman cause I don't know if I really want to, but also how some of y'all would react to it.
I'd really appreciate some feedback on this subject, if you can take the time!
You have to separate the work from the actor. Screen caps are part of the work. Post them. Otherwise we quickly get to the point where we don't listen to the music of Wagner because he was a thief, a philanderer, and a racist. We don't look at Picasso's art because he was a womanizer and got along just dandy with the Nazis in Paris. What artist has not had demons in his/her closet?
ReplyDeleteThat is indeed a very good point! :)
DeleteAgree with all of this. I think we have to separate the two things. And allow for people to be redeemed as well.
DeleteWomanizing isn't a crime, pretty much every famous and revered figure in history was a playboy and/or perv. Gandhi, Ben Franklin, Casanova, Louis XIV, Peter the Great, Grover Cleveland, Napoleon, Suleiman I, Joseph Smith Jr., Hans Christian Andersen, John F. Kennedy, Charles II, Einstein, Churchill, Charlie Chaplin, Lyndon Johnson, Dr. Seuss, Mozart, Freud, CS Lewis, Leo Tolstoy, etc.
DeleteIt's funny because sometimes the character in the scene is doing things that are a turn-off, but I can enjoy it by focusing on how hot it was that the actor on the set was nude and what he was doing. It seems like for me it would be hard to go the other way and stop thinking about the man himself and just focus on the work. But it's easy enough for viewers to skip what they don't like. I say, you should post what you want to and let the guys who come to your blog enjoy what they like, and skip what they don't. (Of course people will complain -- tell them to fuck off.) If you, personally, don't feel comfortable with a particular man, don't post. If anyone wants to see that, they're welcome to find it somewhere else.
ReplyDeletepost it I say!
ReplyDeleteI would go with posting as well.
ReplyDeleteJust post it. Unless he's done something so heinous like molest/rape children, then fuck cancel culture. Most of the # shit is made up or twisted for personal gain anyway.
ReplyDeleteAs for Shia, he's unattractive to me because he looks and sounds like another alcoholic crackhead.
Excellent point. All points. To each his own opinion. Xander7 post what you want to. This your blog. Anyone that upset over something you put out here they are welcome to get their fix somewhere else. As far as I'm concerned anyway.
DeleteI share the opinion of many guys here, and I think that's also yours too, Xander. I think you should post it.
ReplyDeleteI think it's up to you if you can stand the person. For me personally, if a (contemporary/still living) person is a total shit person, then there is nothing to enjoy. So just post what you enjoy because it is your blog!
ReplyDeleteAnd to add, we all have varying opinions on people anyway so it's all up to what YOU think of the person!
DeleteHi ! First of all, thank you very much for your work, I agree with the other guys, you are free to publish what you want, and others free to see it or not, it is your work and effort and your decision, there will always negative people and uncomfortable, who want things to their liking and determined to criticize, you must ignore those people, they do not contribute anything good to your work, if you think that the artist of which you are going to post may become annoying, put an alert and that is everything.
ReplyDeletegeneral don't have an issue with posting people who have been cancelled. I would maybe avoid posting rape scenes, if the actor themselves is accused of rape
ReplyDeleteI really dislike rape scenes. I barely post them anyway.
DeleteThanks for all the replies. So it sounds like you are okay with me posting any actor. So I will decided myself who I will and will not post! :)
ReplyDeleteI think you should post it. I appreciate all your posts
ReplyDeleteHi Xander. Love your blog. I know this post is about cancel culture and I agree with everyone, post what you want. I would love to ask if you have it, please post Théo Christine in Garçon Chiffon.. I've seen screencaps but cannot find the actual scene anywhere and I've been checking this blog (my favorite) daily... thanks in advance
ReplyDeleteI am planning to post this tomorrow.
DeleteI would say, it's your blog in the end, so post what you want. Most people can read the title, before clicking, and just avoid the post, if they don't want to see it.
ReplyDeleteIt's also difficult, 'cause film making is a collaborative art form. Like, there's a screen writer, a director, and a full crew who also worked on the film.
It can also be complicated, because, well, what if the film was made, before these things came to light.
I don't blame people for avoiding certain pieces of art. It's an individual decision at the end of the day.
You don't owe artists separating their work from them as a person, especially as a lot of art purposefully blurs the lines between the art and the artist.
But, I still think you can post it. Again, the header should be an indication of who it is you're featuring, and then people can decide for themselves if they click on it.
It can also honestly be exhausting keeping up with what A-list asshole did something horrible this time around.
... also another point.
DeleteClicking on a clip on your blog doesn't support these actors financially in any way.
So that conflict also kind of doesn't exist here. Which can be where things get difficult in some cases.
'cause saying you should just separate things is easy, until you consider that supporting the art is often also supporting the artist financially.
Cheers,
And kudos for asking for feedback :D
You must separate the artist from the work, i would like to see you put more posts like this asking your subscribers stuff like recommendations for the next posts, etc.
ReplyDeleteif you are asking, personally i can separte one thing from the other but you gotta do what you feel is right for you. Thanks for all you videos and caps, you truly brighten my day
